We,
the Musical Writers' Playground, are a moving force in the development
of musical theatre. We inspire and educate composers, lyricists
and librettists in a supportive environment. We are committed to
creating commercially viable musical theatre while expanding the
creative parameters of the art form, and creating value for the
collaborative artists who contribute to the development of new musical
theatre works.
The Musical Writers' Playground was orginally co-founded in 1999
by Leslie Becker, Vincent Paul Boyle and DJ Salisbury to provide
a fun yet practical environment for musical theatre artists to refine
their work among peers and ultimately showcase their material for
top industry people. We seek to "make it happen" by bringing
together composers, lyricists and librettists with Broadway-calibre
actors and directors.
Moving into
its fifth year, the Playground currently has 18 writers, an Off-Broadway
option, a future CD release and ten shows currently in development.
We are committed to creating high-quality, marketable material and
increasing the reach and possibilities of musical theatre. We hope
